Intermediate: SDC, Fern Lake & Camp Via

This one's a favorite of mine.  We start at the Sonoma Development Center and talk a little about the origin over 120 years ago, walking past the Eldridge Fire Station and the old staff dormatories.  From there we start up the Eldridge Trail to the picnic grounds (porta potties here) and Fern Lake.  Passsing Fern Lake we hike up the Red Hill Trail to Camp Via and the historic fruit orchard that is being brought back to life.  We'll take a break at Camp Via and then head back down the paved road to the SDC Cemetery where we will pay respects to the ones who are buried there.  A total of only 4.25 miles and 710 feet of elevation.  Bring water, a snack and poles.  For those who wish, there are picnic tables we can use for lunch after we return to our cars.  Hike Leader Gary Andersen
