LONG: Chicken Shack, Big Rock Ridge Road, and Ponti Trail Loop

This 6.1-mile loop includes 1,341 ft of elevation gain and travels along the ridge between Loma Verde Open Space Preserve and Pacheco Valle Open Space. The trails offer stunning vistas and a chance to enjoy the beautiful open space on both sides of the ridge. The route mostly travels through oak woodland, with some exposed areas. Although a little shorter than usual, AllTrails rates this hike as hard. The climb to the ridgetop is on a well-maintained fire road and is steep, but the amazing views make it worthwhile. Once at the top, we will begin a gradual descent through bay and madrone woods. The hike will end with a nice walk through the Pacheco Valley neighborhood. Bring poles, if you like, and plenty of water.
