LONG HIKE: Islands in the Sky to Shell Beach

This is a spectacular through hike, we will leave a car or two at Shell Beach, and go back to Duncans Mills to hike through the "Islands in the Sky" portion of Willow Creek Preserve, across Willow Creek itself to Pomo Campground in the Sonoma State Coastal Park, and thence to Shell beach over Red hill. Views of the Russian River, Willow Creek, the Pacific coast and more…  8 miles and 1900 ft elevation gain. Insider tip: Those waiting for the cars to return from dropping off have been known to sustain themselves on huge bearclaws from the Duncan's Mills bakery....   Leave the Berger at 8.30am, bring Lunch, water, poles, dress in layers for conditions near the coast.
