About the event
Having spent most of my adult life hiking the trails of Marin, I can say that this is one of my favorites. The bright green grassy slopes above Stinson are dotted with a wide array of wildflowers as though someone sprayed vibrant colors of paint over them. With all the rain we've had, this will be a great time to hike this loop.
We will begin at the Pantoll parking lot and hike the Matt Davis trail to an unnamed trail for a steep climb up to Rock Springs. From Rock Springs (facilities available) we'll take the Simmons and Mickey O'Brien Trails through the woods, then a short walk on the Cataract Trail will take us to Laurel Dell. From there. we'll cross Ridgecrest Blvd. and proceed among the flowers on the Coastal and Matt Davis Trails that will lead us back to Pantoll.
Although this is considered a moderate hike with only about 1,200 ft elevation and a distance of approximately seven miles, a few of the climbs are fairly steep, but not treacherous. Bring lunch, liquids, and poles if you like.
