Shin-ter: OHC term derived from Short-Intermediate combined on short notice in lieu of the cancelled tri-nite. It’s a hike for all levels.

This is a forested hike on short notice with lots of shade, just west of Occidental in the Sonoma Coast State Park west of Occidental. This trail is out and back with a loop with a total of 5.8 miles and 892 feet of elevation for the entire hike. Short hikers can go as far as the loop where they can wait for the rest of the Intermediate hikers to complete the loop in which case the short hike is about 3 miles with 380 feert of elevation. The hike is nearly all downhill for the first half with the elevation gain on ther return . Bonnie’s Brownies will be served mid-morning on the trail. The trailhead is a 26 mile drive from the Berger lot with a travel time of about 50 minutes. We will depart Berger at 8:30 am and have lunch (12:45 pm) following the hike at the Altamont General Store in Occidental. Order your lunch at the counter and pay yourself, credit cards are accepted. As of Sunday 9/11, the forecast high for hike day in Occidental is 72 degrees.
