On our way back from the Sutter Buttes we tried our luck finding this location. We drove on maybe 20 miles of unsurfaced gravel and (currently) dried mud, following about the same distance on very winding no barriers steep 1.5 lanes "paved" road which was kind of on "on the way home", as a through route. Thanks to Ed Biglin for suggesting it from a hazy remembrance, we didn't really know what to expect. Not a trip for anyone who's not confident behind the wheel. Google it to find out more and the location if you are interested. Currently its very yellow, but just a few purples appearing. Other pictures show mixture of white, purple, orange and white, so its going to be different whenever, an expert can probably know which color follows which. We did not find the "access gate", but you don't need to really to appreciate it from the "road" side. For anyone interested...
