Short Hikers

A chatty fun group of 17 short (and some medium/taller) hikers - including many new Oakmont residents who were warmly welcomed - eagerly followed OHC leader and Jack London Park docent Susan Novak through Jack's Beauty Ranch on a perfect summer weather day. After Susan shared stories about the the barns, winery ruins, gardens and cottage, we took an uphill but shady hike through a redwood grove to London Lake - still with considerable water, appreciated by the resident mallard family. We also saw CA quail fuzz-ball chicks, and practiced use of Seek and Merlin plant and bird ID apps. All commented on how fortunate we are to have such a beautiful and historical park less than 15 minutes from home. Thank you Susan, for a most enjoyable morning!
